How to Have Effective Conversations About Health Care Planning: May 11 Workshop

twilight-1383505-639x424One of the hardest conversations to have with your loved one involves how to plan for declining health. When to treat? When is it time to let go?

Despite the difficulties, it’s essential to have those conversations, not only with your aging parents and other relatives, but also with your spouse or partner and children. We all have to face the fact that, sooner or later, each of us will likely have to deal with health challenges. Better to plan ahead and have an open dialogue about personal preferences than to wait until a crisis arises.

May is Aging Life Care™ month, the perfect time to learn how to broach this conversation at an Honoring Choices Massachusetts workshop, Health Care Planning and Person-Centered Care Through Effective Conversations & Connections.

Please join co-sponsor Deb Fins on Wednesday, May 11, from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive, Worcester, for this innovative, hands-on program. There is no charge, but space is limited. Please click here to RSVP.

Our goal is to empower families and adults, 18 and older, to make a health care plan and receive person-centered care that honors their values and choices. Through large group discussion, we will offer powerful tools and proven strategies:

  • Learn how to engage adults in early and on-going planning discussions at every phase of health.
  • Receive up-to-date health care planning information, the five Massachusetts planning documents tools and effective consumer-care provider discussion guides.
  • Understand how to become an Honoring Partners Community Partner and join your colleagues in our growing state network.

The program is co-hosted by Deborah Fins Associates, PC; The Center for Health Impact; Laura Silver Traiger, Starr Vander Linden LLP; Notre Dame Health Care; and Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc. The DFA Fund for Elder Care Education and Support is sponsoring the event.
